A video carrying a plea for McDonald’s to expand its foreign menu with Indian burgers caught people’s attention online. In the viral clip, content creator Khushi Bhardwaj is seen taking to Canada a range of McDonald’s Indian delicacies, including McAloo Tikki, McMaharaja and McSpicy Paneer, and surprising a relative.
The joy on the face of the recipient summed up how Indians living abroad feel about the McDonald’s menu and food offerings in those territories, desperately awaiting the inclusion of some of its iconic Indian items.
The Craze For McAloo Tikki
“Only Indians living in Canada can understand the pain of not having McAloo Tikki, McSurprise, McMaharaja and McSpicy Paneer,” wrote Bhardwaj in a note along with the video where she travels with a pack
of McDonald’s burgers all the way from India to Canada and gives a man a surprise he dearly loved.
The content creator reiterated the craze that McDonald’s still has among Indians and NRIs. “Every time someone comes from India, the first question I ask is not, ‘How was your flight?’. It’s ‘India me McDonald’s khaya! Humare liye bhi le aate (you had McDonald’s in India! Should’ve brought some burgers for us),” she noted.
Bhardwaj bought 9-10 burgers during her visit to India before boarding the flight back home to Canada. “Trust me, we celebrated them (burgers) here. Indians in Canada would literally go crazy for these,” she said before requesting McDonald’s to bring Indian burgers to its Canada menu. The woman said the price wouldn’t even matter to NRIs who have been waiting for them. She urged the company to act fast and quipped that otherwise Canada’s NRIs might soon start a “petition” for it.
‘As An Indian In Mexico I Can Relate’
The video struck a chord online with other NRIs from around the world, who too have been waiting for McDonald’s to widen its overseas menu and introduce the likes of McAloo Tikki, McMaharaja and McSpicy Paneer in those territories.
“As an indian living in Mexico, I can relate to this so much,” said one individual.
Someone noted the man’s wry smile in the video and his cute movements, and said, “Dance was best.”
“My kid would have the same reaction,” commented another person.
Many in the comment section tagged McDonald’s in the hope that the renowned fast food restaurant chain would soon oblige to the NRIs’ heartfelt request. Given the demand for Indian burgers, it is indeed a surprise that the company hasn’t already introduced them to its overseas menu.
