Wedding season dressing often follows a familiar script, but Sonam Kapoor has long rejected predictability. When she unveiled her latest look for a wedding, she offered a masterclass in how Indian couture
could be rooted in heritage yet imagined through an entirely modern lens. Her custom Mayyur Girotra ensemble became less of an outfit and more of a moving tapestry: one stitched with memory, emotion and maximalist artistry.
Instead of leaning into heavy bridal traditionalism, Sonam Kapoor chose a muted gold dress that played with structure and liquidity. It was draped, pleated and sculpted to sit close to the body without restricting it, creating a silhouette that shifted gracefully with movement. The metal-toned fabric acted as both canvas and counterpoint – a quiet foundation for what came next.

The highlight of the ensemble was the dramatic embroidered jacket layered above the gold dress. It carried the kind of detailing that demanded attention yet never felt overwhelming, a balance Mayyur Girotra’s atelier handled with care. The sleeves burst with geometric and floral motifs, mirrorwork, fine thread embroidery and a riot of saturated hues of reds, purples, oranges and blacks. The techniques were reminiscent of Kutch, Punjab and broader North Indian craft traditions. The jacket felt like a tribute to regional textile histories, woven into something unmistakably contemporary.
Sonam elevated the look further with beaded juttis. Her jewellery choices were bold but considered, echoing the couture narrative without overpowering it. A layered choker laden with uncut stones and pearls sat high at the neckline, with matching earrings that sculpted the face. They added old-world splendour while still keeping the overall look cohesive.
The actor, who recently announced her second pregnancy, kept her makeup soft, radiant and intentionally restrained. She wore her hair in a sleek, low bun, a choice that highlighted both her bone structure and the intricate jacket work. Her makeup leaned into satin-matte textures, diffused plum tones on the eyes, brushed-up brows and a muted rose-nude lip. The glow was gentle but unmistakable, a perfect counterbalance to the maximalist craft.
