Mohsin Naqvi To Attend Women's Asia Cup 2026 Final, Will India Accept Trophy From PCB Chief?

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is all set to attend the final of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026 on Sunday (September 13) in Dubai and, in all likelihood, will hand the trophy to the winners. He was also in attendance at the final of the Men’s Asia Cup in Dubai last year (September 28, 2025), but India refused to accept the trophy from him after defeating Pakistan in the summit clash.

After Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian men’s cricket team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, he left the stadium with the Asia Cup trophy, which is yet to be handed over to India.

A similar situation could arise on Sunday as well if India win the Women’s Asia Cup title and, like the men’s team, refuse to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who is also

a minister in Pakistan’s government.

India women’s cricket team have qualified for the semifinals of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 after winning all three of their Group A matches. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side are also the favourites to win the title.

However, it will be interesting to see whether the Indian women’s team accepts the trophy from Naqvi, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Irrespective of India’s decision, the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final could witness another trophy-related controversy if the Women in Blue win the title on Sunday.

Why will Naqvi hand over the trophy?

Mohsin Naqvi, apart from being the PCB chairman, is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Since the Women’s Asia Cup is an ACC-hosted tournament, Naqvi, by virtue of his position, is holds the right of presenting the trophy to the winning team.

However, like the Indian men’s team last year, the Indian women’s team could also choose not to accept the trophy from him.

India’s record in Women’s Asia Cup

India have featured in the final of all nine editions of the Women’s Asia Cup played so far. The Women in Blue are the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won seven titles and finished as runners-up twice.
