Deepika Padukone’s Take On Infidelity Viral: Exploring Twinkle Khanna, Kajol Outrage

Twinkle Khanna and Kajol found themselves in a social media storm after a segment from their OTT show “Two Much” went viral on social media. The hosts of the Amazon Prime talk show shared their views on infidelity

during the “This or That” segment, joined by guests Karan Johar and Janhvi Kapoor in the latest episode. What began as casual banter escalated into controversy when a clip from the episode went viral online, drawing widespread criticism from the audience.

Amid the massive online outrage, a video of Gehraiyaan star Deepika Padukone has surfaced online where the actor’s take on emotional infidelity is now being discussed on Reddit.

Emotional Infidelity

“Emotional cheating is a type of an emotional affair that involves developing a close, emotional connection with someone other than your partner without fully disclosing the existence of that connection,” an excerpt on Cleveland Clinic read. “Over time, as you continue to build an emotional bond with this other person, you may experience a disruption in your own relationship,” it added.

The write-up further stated that emotional infidelity was considered a form of cheating.

“Emotional cheating is considered a form of infidelity just as much as physical or sexual infidelity because it can break the bonds of trust and emotional connection between partners.”

“Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi”

During the segment on “Two Much”, a question was posed by Twinkle and Kajol, asking if emotional cheating was worse than physical cheating. The actors, along with Karan Johar, agreed that emotional infidelity was in fact worse than physical cheating.

Janhvi, however, stood her ground, maintaining that both were equally wrong. “How can one be worse than the other?” she asked, visibly puzzled. This was when Johar chimed in and said, “I believe physical infidelity is not a deal breaker.” Twinkle brushed off the question, saying, “Raat gayi baat gayi”. When Jahnvi disagreed with her stance, the Mela actor quipped: “You’re young” before Johar joined in the argument, saying, “Sometimes… thand lagg jaati hai.”

Reddit Outraged

Banter or otherwise, Reddit was displeased with Twinkle, Kajol, and Johar for “normalising” cheating in relationships.

“How pathetic that Twinkle and Kajol have had to tell themselves physical infidelity is ok to deal with their husbands cheating on them over the years. Never thought I’d agree with anything Janhvi said,” a user wrote on Reddit.

“lol they’re projecting their life and insecurities onto Jahnvis. I’m 30. And I’m definitely on jahnvis side, (sic)” wrote another.

“Respect for Jhanvi here. Cheating is cheating. Can’t believe she’s making far more sense than these 50+ years old adults,” a third wrote.

Deepika Padukone’s Take On Infidelity

Deepika Padukone, who starred in 2022’s Gehraiyaan, which explored the themes of infidelity and trauma, in an interview said that she would be “far more disappointed” by emotional infidelity in a relationship.

“Relationships are truly based on connections and when you have lost that connection in itself then there is no relationship. Sometimes maybe physical attraction is still sort of a passing thing maybe,” Padukone said.

“I think as long as you have respect for the other person I think that is really important. I mean monogamy… I mean physical attraction sure is one thing but I would be far more disappointed if there was emotional infidelity.”

She stressed that physical infidelity wasn’t acceptable in any form, but emotional infidelity, according to her, was far more hurtful.

“Not to say that physical infidelity is okay. But I think emotional infidelity is far more hurtful than anything else.”

“Whole Industry Thinks The Same”

Padukone’s views on relationships and cheating weren’t met with agreement either on Reddit.

“Infidelity is infidelity. Even physical infidelity is a kind of emotional infidelity,” wrote one.

“Physical infidelity involves emotional infidelity too, so it’s both. And emotional infidelity is a precursor to physical infidelity. This sounds like a lot of cope from women who’ve obviously been cheated on and are trying to find ways to downplay it,” added another.

In a much older interview with Simi Garewal, Deepika Padukone stated that she would not tolerate either physical or emotional infidelity. “In any form, it doesn’t have to be physical. Even mentally not being present isn’t fair to your partner,” she said.
