Actor Prakash Raj was earlier issued a non-bailable warrant by a Bengaluru magistrate court for failing to appear in a case related to allegations of holding multiple voter identity cards across different states. In the latest update, the court has granted him bail in the case after he furnished a Rs 4,000 cash surety.
Prakash Raj was issued a non-bailable warrant earlier for not responding to court summons. However, on Friday, the actor appeared before the court along with his legal team and requested that the warrant be withdrawn. He also sought bail, which the court granted. However, the case will continue.
The 48th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court in Bengaluru heard Prakash Raj’s counsel on Friday. Following submissions from
both parties, the court decided to recall the non-bailable warrant. According to India Today, the actor furnished a cash surety of Rs 4,000.

According to Prakash Raj’s lawyers, the court summons never reached him, and he only found out about the case through media reports. They argued that the court never sent him any official notice. The court subsequently agreed to recall the warrant.
Now, Prakash Raj will not be arrested. However, the case, which has been ongoing since 2019, will remain active.
The case stems from a complaint filed in 2019 by advocate Dileep Kumar at Bengaluru’s Halasuru Gate Police Station. The complaint alleged that Prakash Raj was registered as a voter in three states – Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana – and possessed four voter identity cards. Court records state that the alleged duplicate registrations were linked to Shanthinagar in Bengaluru, Serilingampally in Telangana, and two entries in Velachery, Tamil Nadu. Under the Election Commission of India’s rules, an individual can be enrolled as a voter at only one place of ordinary residence.
The case came under judicial scrutiny after the complainant approached higher authorities and the court, alleging inaction by the local police. After examining the documents submitted by the advocate, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court took cognisance of the matter and issued summons to Prakash Raj on multiple occasions. According to the court, the actor repeatedly failed to appear or respond to the summons, prompting it to adopt stricter measures to ensure his presence during the proceedings.
