Thane, Sep 18 (PTI) A woman was injured after a tree fell on two ‘chawls’ in Thane West on Friday, a civic official said.
The incident, in which four rooms of the two ‘chawls’ were damaged, took place near Balkum crematorium at around 6:15pm, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell.
Sarita Prajapati (24), a resident of room number 1 in Kotkar House ‘chawl’, was injured in the leg and shoulder and has been admitted in a stable condition to a local medical facility, he said.
Two rooms in TM Chawal suffered broken roof sheets and window glass, he said.
“One room in Kotkar House suffered severe structural roof damage and residents in it have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Another room in the same
chawl incurred minor roof damage,” the official said.
Emergency teams from the fire brigade, disaster management cell and workers from Tree Authority department cleared a major portion of the fallen tree from the structures.
However, due to nightfall, poor visibility, and limited space, the remaining branches will be removed on Saturday morning, he added. PTI COR BNM
