Few young stars embody cultural duality with as much ease and elegance as Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. Known globally for her breakout role as Devi Vishwakumar in Never Have I Ever, the actor has consistently
championed her South Asian roots – both on-screen and off. Her latest appearance was yet another striking example of how she seamlessly bridges the gap between tradition and modernity through fashion.
A Golden Tribute To Craft And Culture
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan stunned in a custom gold ensemble by Manish Malhotra at Vogue World 2025. The design reimagined the timeless elegance of Indian textiles through a distinctly Hollywood lens. The outfit was crafted from archival gold brocade woven with intricate metallic floral motifs, celebrating India’s centuries-old weaving traditions.

The garment’s tea-length skirt, reminiscent of a lehenga, was elevated with the structure and drama of Western couture. Complementing this was a hooded veil inspired by the traditional ghunghat, symbolising modesty and mystery, while the off-shoulder draped sleeves flowed effortlessly into the sheer fabric trailing behind her, making it a visual metaphor for cultural dialogue between East and West.
Adding to the design’s narrative depth, the skirt featured a bustle, a nod to 19th-century European gowns, merging two worlds of craftsmanship into one stunning couture moment.
Maitreyi completed her look with monochrome makeup in warm brown tones, accentuating her natural glow. Her eyes were softly defined, her lips wore a muted nude tint, and her hair was styled neatly to accommodate the flowing veil. She paired the look with minimal jewellery and vanilla-hued footwear, letting the fabric and form speak for themselves.
The result? A look that felt both cinematic and deeply personal – one that celebrated her heritage while asserting her global star power.
Beyond fashion, Maitreyi continues to rise in Hollywood’s creative ranks. She will next appear in Netflix’s comedy Best of the Best alongside Hasan Minhaj and Priyanka Jedia, and has lent her voice to animated favourites like Turning Red and My Little Pony: Make Your Mark.
With every red-carpet appearance, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan proves that she’s more than just a breakout star. She’s a modern muse rewriting what cross-cultural fashion can look like.
