Premier League side Nottingham Forest parted ways with head coach Ange Postecoglou on Saturday following their defeat to Chelsea.
Postecoglou was sacked just 40 days into his tenure, marking the shortest
period a permanent head coach has spent in charge of a club in the Premier League. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis left the stadium before the game concluded, hinting at his dissatisfaction with the Australian manager’s performance. Postecoglou was removed from his position after overseeing eight games, of which he lost six and drew the remaining two.
Ryan Yates opened up no the proceedings at the City ground in the wake of Forest’s defeat to the Blues as Postecoglou went through with his post-match thoughts with the players in the dressing room.
“He went into the dressing room to give his post-match thoughts,” he said.
“He was very disappointed with the result, much like everyone connected to the club,” Yates added.
Yates added that the players had a meeting with the club’s top-brass and that the club was united in their pursuit of moving past the horrendous space they find themselves in.
“I’m not sure, I don’t remember, maybe it was one of the staff,” he revealed when quizzed about how the players found out about the sacking.
“And after the post-game reflections, the players were taken to the boardroom. The leadership group was there, a few people from upstairs making the big decisions,” he said.
“Like I said, we have a fantastic connection from the dressing room all the way up to Mr Marinakis,” the 27-year-old added.
“He values our opinion. End of the day he makes the decisions, but we need to dust ourselves down. Whatever the club do moving forward, they got the full backing from us players in the dressing room that is for sure,” the Englishman continued.
“And like I say, its down to us players, now more than ever to do everything we can on the training pitch and starting Thursday night, to go and get a result.”
Yates also revealed that Marinakis wasn’t part of the collective addressing thr issue at the dressing room following their defeat to Chelsea.
“They have out full backing to change it around,” Yates concluded.
Nottingham host Porto on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League encounter and will look to bounce back to winning ways against the Portuguese outfit.
