Mukesh Khanna and Samay Raina are now sharing screen space in an advertisement, months after the veteran actor publicly criticised the comedian over the India’s Got Latent controversy. The unexpected collaboration has become a talking point online, especially because Khanna had been one of Samay’s most vocal critics.
The advertisement was shared by Samay Raina on Instagram just hours after the launch of the second season of India’s Got Latent. While the show has returned with a more filtered format, it is the promo featuring the Shaktimaan actor that has drawn a lot of attention.
Samay Raina and Mukesh Khanna’s surprise ad
The video opens with Samay speaking on the phone and saying, “Thanks, yaar. The show is returning now. As they say, darkness
doesn’t prevail for long.”
Moments later, Mukesh Khanna arrives in his signature Shaktimaan style. Surprised to see him, Samay asks, “What are you doing on my roof, sir?”
Khanna replies, “Teri tedhi dumm seedhi karne ayaa hu, Samay Raina (I am here to put you in line, Samay Raina).”
The exchange continues with Samay asking him to come downstairs because he is uncomfortable being on a rooftop with Shaktimaan. Khanna then references the controversy that surrounded the comedian earlier this year. “After three FIRs, you don’t seem to have learnt a lesson. We will have to paint your face black.”
The actor also takes aim at Samay’s style of comedy during the playful banter. Referring to the comedian’s language and humour, he says, “You live in India, but your jokes are American style.”
The conversation eventually turns into a product promotion, with the duo advertising a mobile phone. By the end of the clip, Samay manages to make Khanna laugh at one of his jokes before signing off with, “Sorry, Shaktimaan.”
Internet reacts to the unlikely pairing
The collaboration triggered reactions on social media. Several users joked about the fact that two people who had publicly disagreed in the past were now starring together in a commercial. One Instagram user wrote, “Samay making his enemies into bro,” while another commented, “This is such an unexpected collab.”
Why Mukesh Khanna had slammed Samay Raina
The ad has gained attention largely because of Mukesh Khanna’s previous remarks about Samay Raina following the India’s Got Latent controversy.
Last year, Samay Raina faced multiple FIRs linked to a distasteful comment made by Ranveer Allahbadia on the show. Mukesh Khanna reacted strongly at the time and criticised the comedian for what he described as vulgar humour.
In April, Khanna referred to Samay as ‘kutte ki dum’ in an Instagram post and wrote, “Samay Raina is no normal creature. He’s been roasted in filth. The whole country insulted him, but he’s back, asking to get bashed up all over again. The only way now is to blacken his face, make him sit on a donkey, and parade him across cities, where kids would throw tomatoes and eggs at him because he’s insulted their superhero Shaktimaan.”
The comments came after Samay suggested that Mukesh Khanna was trying to draw attention by commenting on the controversy.
What Was The India’s Got Latent Controversy?
Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent season 1 was pulled down earlier this year after a major controversy involving YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who was a panelist on one of the episodes. During the show, Allahbadia made a remark on parental sex that many viewers found offensive, triggering massive backlash on social media. Multiple police complaints and FIRs were filed against those associated with the episode, including host Samay Raina. As the controversy grew, Samay Raina removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube and said he would cooperate with the authorities. The Instagram page is back online now.
