Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has revealed that he was near Bondi Beach during the shooting earlier in the day, adding that he is now safe in his residential facility. Bondi’s sweeping arc of
white sand stands as one of Australia’s most iconic beaches.
Two gunmen shot dead nine people on Sunday, December 14, at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, police said. One gunman was shot by police and the second was arrested.
The suspect was in critical condition, authorities said. A huge emergency response was underway, with injured people loaded into ambulances.
“Being locked in a restaurant in Bondi was scary .. Now home safe .. but thanks so much to the emergency services and the guy who confronted the terrorist .. thoughts with all who have been affected .. xxx,” Vaughan tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

Vaughan is in Australia for the Ashes. The third Test of the five-match series begins on December 17 in Adelaide.
Meanwhile, 11 people were confirmed wounded, as per a statement by police in New South Wales state, where Sydney is located. Two of those hurt were police officers.
Australian authorities have yet to confirm the intended target of the mass shooting. At the time, hundreds of people had gathered at Bondi Beach for an event called Chanukah by the Sea, marking the start of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah.
