England suffered a humiliating defeat by 8 wickets inside four days in the second Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series. In the pink-ball Test played at The Gabba in Brisbane, England conceded a first-innings
lead of 177 runs and then scored only 241 runs in their second innings to set up a target of 65 runs for Australia to chase down in four sessions. The Aussies didn’t take much time and achieved the objective in 10 overs.
As a result of defeat in the Day-Night Test, England have slipped to seventh position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table.
The Poms have managed to secure only 26 points out of the available 84, and their PCT% is 30.95. Only Bangladesh (16.67) and the West Indies (5.55) are below them in terms of PCT% in the WTC 2025-27 points table.
Meanwhile, Australia remain at the top of the WTC 2025-27 points table. The Baggy Greens have won all five matches played so far in the ongoing cycle. They have 60 points and 100 PCT% to their credit.

In the ongoing WTC cycle, England have won only two matches out of seven played so far. In the 2025 edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, England won matches against India at Leeds and Lord’s in June and July, respectively, but suffered humiliating defeats in the second and fifth Tests played at Edgbaston and The Oval, respectively. Whereas the fourth Test between the two teams in Manchester ended in a draw.
Due to the slow over rate, England were also slapped with a penalty of 2 points during the India-England series in summer.
ENG’s loss is NZ’s gain
England slip in the WTC 2025-27 points table helped 2021 WTC winners New Zealand jump from 7th to 6th position. The Kiwis have 33.33%. They played a draw against the West Indies in the first Test of ongoing three-match series in New Zealand.
India, on the other hand, remain 5th in the points table. The two-time WTC losing finalists have 48.11 PCT% to their credit after they managed to win only four out of nine Tests played so far in the ongoing cycle.
