Bengaluru Real Estate Tycoon Who Died by Suicide Owned Fastest Car In The World

A Bengaluru-based real estate tycoon who died by suicide on Friday was known for his flamboyant lifestyle and for owning the world’s fastest road-legal car, the Bugatti Veyron.

CJ Roy, founder and chairman of Confident Group, allegedly shot himself at his Bengaluru residence while an income tax raid was under way at his office, police said.

Founded nearly two decades ago, Confident Group has real estate projects across Bengaluru, Kerala, and Dubai. Videos of Roy that circulated widely on social media showed him living a lavish life and frequently showcasing luxury cars. One such clip shows him driving away in a blue Bugatti Veyron, widely regarded as the fastest production car permitted on public roads.

In the video, Roy is seen standing near the driver’s

door, with a woman on the passenger side, before he tells viewers, “Take care friends, have a beautiful evening,” and drives off. The footage later shows a large house with a manicured lawn, bearing a nameplate reading E64, Dr Roy CJ. The date and location of the video could not be independently verified.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said a case has been registered. “Prima facie, it appears that industrialist CJ Roy has shot himself. Ballistic experts and other officials are investigating,” he said after visiting Roy’s Longford Road residence.

Police said the income tax team that carried out the raids at Roy’s Bengaluru office had come from Kerala and had been working there for the past two to three days. The officers involved in the raid were also questioned as part of the inquiry.

The handgun allegedly used by Roy has been seized and sent for forensic examination. Reports said Roy and his family had interests in multiple business ventures and that he was facing several legal cases.

Roy was also known for his public outreach, often sharing his business journey with young entrepreneurs through events and reality shows, and maintaining a strong presence on social media.
