New Delhi, Apr 14 (PTI) To shape the next phase of development in the water sector, the Delhi government is planning to hold a “Water Expo” for the first time, DJB minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Tuesday.
The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is not only responsible for catering to the drinking water needs of the city’s population but also for Yamuna rejuvenation projects.
“In the next few years, water-related projects worth approximately Rs 50,000 crore are likely to be carried out in Delhi. We are taking up several projects and want companies from all over the country and the world to showcase their technology, suggest ideas and give feedback on the work that is being done,” Singh said.
Over the last one year, the Delhi government has announced several
projects to revamp the existing water-pipeline infrastructure, plug revenue leakages and clean the Yamuna river.
According to officials, a meeting was held with DJB officials recently regarding the theme and other details of the expo. The final design of the event is yet to be finalised.
“We plan to invite experts from this field and global companies to the expo and understand the new technologies that are emerging which can help us,” Singh said.
This year, Delhi’s budget for the water and sewerage sector is Rs 9,000 crore, under which the government has approved setting up 35 decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) and also plans to construct 10 new STPs.
“Another aspect of the expo would be decentralisation and privatisation of the DJB distribution network,” an official said.
The DJB is also working on a water master plan, under which a study of the existing infrastructure and future expansion will be undertaken, keeping in mind the city’s increasing population. PTI SSM RC
