Kevin Pietersen As Chennai Super Kings' Mentor? Ex-England Cricketer's Reaction Goes Viral

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has quipped that he would love to become a mentor for the Chennai Super Kings, adding that the southern city is closer to the Maldives and it would be easier for him to holiday there, in a hilarious reference to his travel during IPL 2025.

On Tuesday morning, a CSK fan tweeted, asking the franchise to rope in Pietersen as the mentor for the team.

The five-time champions have suffered three consecutive defeats in IPL 2026 and are yet to record their maiden win in the tournament.

In IPL 2025, Pietersen was appointed mentor of the Delhi Capitals. Midway through the season, he took a family vacation to the Maldives, which became a laughing point within the franchise, with KL Rahul taking sly digs at him now and then.

Pietersen made his Indian Premier League debut in 2009 with Royal Challengers Bangalore after being signed for a then-record US$1.5 million (Rs 13.95 crore now).

But his stint proved underwhelming, as Pietersen managed just 93 runs in six games at an average of 15.5, while also claiming four wickets at a strike rate of 19.5 and an economy of 6.53.

In February 2014, the Delhi Daredevils snapped up Pietersen ahead of the IPL 2014 season and handed him the leadership. He had represented DD during the 2012 IPL, which proved to be his most productive campaign in the league.

That season, Pietersen amassed 305 runs at a strike rate of 147, highlighted by a match-winning unbeaten 103.

Now, Pietersen works as a commentator in the IPL.
