Star Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mohsin Khan on Sunday, April 26, picked a five-wicket haul against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Ekana Stadium, becoming the third bowler from LSG to pick a five-for.
Mohsin finished with outstanding figures of 5/23 from his four overs, registering the second-best bowling spell for the team. The best remains with England’s Mark Wood, who took 5/14 against the Delhi Capitals in 2023.
Mohsin made an immediate impact, striking in his very first over to dismiss Tim Seifert before returning in his next to remove Ajinkya Rahane. In his third over, he accounted for Rovman Powell, who was deceived by a rising bouncer and edged off the glove to Rishabh Pant.
In his final over, Mohsin struck twice in successive balls, removing
Cameron Green and Anukul Roy to complete a career-best IPL haul.
Mohsin’s match figures became the best by a left-arm Indian pacer as well, going past Jaydev Unadkat’s previous record of 5/25 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Delhi Daredevils.
Mohsin’s 5/23, a personal best in the format for the left-arm pacer, ripped through an already struggling KKR batting lineup as he claimed the key wickets of Rahane, Seifert, Green, Powell and Roy.
Rinku Singh (83* off 51 balls) brought up a well-paced fifty and took on Mohammed Shami in the 19th over, smashing him for 6, 4 and 4. He then unleashed four successive sixes against spinner Digvesh Rathi, as KKR piled on 43 runs in the final two overs to surge past the 150-run mark.
But Rinku’s half-century remained a lone act, as Mohsin stood in the limelight.
Mohsin’s bowling approach was built on simple plans: hit the black-soil pitch hard to extract bounce, or mix in cutters at varying speeds to keep the batters guessing.
Mohsin, who began the night with a wicket maiden, showed his variety across two dismissals.
