Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has said that it hurts ‘deeply’ to lose the IPL 2026 final and the disappointment weighs heavily, as he expressed his gratitude to the fans following a successful season where they fell just one step short.
Two days after the Gujarat Titans’ loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL final, India’s Test and ODI skipper Gill broke his silence. In an honest and emotional message, he admitted that the defeat to RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad had hurt him and was a burden he continued to carry.
But Gill was quick to reassure supporters that the Gujarat Titans would return stronger next season, with their sights all set on bagging a second IPL title. He also expressed gratitude to the fans for
standing by the team through every high and low of the tournament’s 19th edition.
“We came so close but could not get over the line. It hurts deeply and the disappointment weighs heavily, but this game that we all love teaches us so much about life,” Gill posted on Instagram.
Gill, meanwhile, enjoyed a brilliant IPL 2026 campaign, leading from the front with the bat. The Gujarat Titans captain amassed 732 runs in 16 games, highlighted by a magnificent 104 against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 that powered his team into the final.
Gill’s astute captaincy played a key role in Gujarat Titans finishing second in the league standings, with nine victories from 14 games. But their path to the title suffered a setback when they were defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1.
But the Titans responded in emphatic fashion in Qualifier 2 against the Rajasthan Royals, chasing down a daunting target of 215 to book their place in the final. Gill led by example, producing a magnificent hundred that proved decisive in the high-pressure knockout clash.
