Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has spoken of “fractures in the enemy” and called for greater national unity, in remarks that come amid Western media reports that he was seriously wounded in recent airstrikes.
In a message, Khamenei said the unity among Iranians had weakened adversaries and strengthened internal cohesion. He also warned against what he described as attempts by “enemy media” to target public opinion and undermine national security, urging vigilance to prevent such efforts from succeeding.

Message Comes Amid Injury Reports
The remarks come as reports, including from The New York Times, suggest that Khamenei sustained severe injuries during US-Israeli strikes earlier this year. According to the report, he has been operating under tight security with limited access, while being treated by medical teams.
Officials cited in the report said communication with him is being carried out through handwritten messages relayed by trusted couriers, amid concerns over security risks. He has not made any public appearances since assuming leadership in March.

Power Shift To IRGC
The same report indicated that decision-making authority has increasingly shifted to senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who are now leading key wartime and diplomatic decisions.
Analysts and former officials said Khamenei is relying heavily on these commanders, with some describing the current structure as akin to a “board” guiding decisions while he remains physically constrained.

Internal Messaging On Unity
Against this backdrop, Khamenei’s message emphasised internal solidarity, saying the unity among compatriots had become “more steel-like” and that enemies would be weakened further.
He also cautioned that psychological operations by adversaries were aimed at creating divisions, stressing the need to remain alert and maintain cohesion during a period of conflict and uncertainty.
