Chennai Rain: Amid festive vibes, several parts of Tamil Nadu are witnessing incessant downpour. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted heavy rainfall across several parts on October 21 and 22. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin reviewed the situation.
Owing to the adverse weather, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has geared up flood preparedness by almost doubling the number of relief centres from 116 to 215 citywide.
Tamil Nadu CM also directed the officials to move residents living in the coastal and low-lying areas to safer places.
Stalin was quoted by ANI as saying, “The affected areas have not faced any major issues or damages so far. As per the IMD’s forecast, heavy rainfall is expected on October 21 and 22,
and precautionary measures have been taken, including arrangements for people to stay in relief camps if needed. Most of the harvested paddy crops have already been stored safely in godowns…Whatever the intensity of the rain may be, this government is fully prepared to face it”

Chennai Rain
IMD on Sunday issued a yellow alert in Chennai and predicted a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
The CM also reviewed the damage caused by heavy rain via video conferencing. He also checked the preparatory measures undertaken to face the Northeast Monsoon at the State Emergency Operations Centre in Chennai.
He also reviewed the damage in Thiruvarur, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Theni, Coimbatore, and Nilgiris districts.
