United Nations, Apr 27 (PTI) United Nations General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock will discuss current global issues and the importance of intensifying multilateral cooperation with Indian leaders during her upcoming visit to the country.
Baerbock will travel to India on April 28, her first visit to the country in her capacity as UNGA President.
She had previously visited India when she was serving as the German Foreign Minister.
“As India and China are two key supporters of the United Nations and multilateralism, the President of the General Assembly will discuss current global issues and challenges for the international order and stress the importance of upholding the UN Charter, strengthening the United Nations, and intensifying multilateral cooperation
on all three pillars of the United Nations,” a media advisory issued Monday by her office said.
Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the UNGA, will then travel to China on April 29-30, her office said, adding that the visits are at the invitation of the governments of India and China, respectively.
In India, Baerbock will hold bilateral meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and will also meet with representatives from India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the UN country team in India.
In China, she will hold bilateral meetings with Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. She will also meet with the UN country team in China.
Earlier in February this year, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had travelled to India for the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. PTI YAS SCY SCY
