A stunning video showing a Vande Bharat Express gliding through snow-covered Himalayan peaks has gone viral after it was shared by the MLA from Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen, drawing widespread attention online.
The short clip captures the semi-high-speed train slicing through a white landscape, with thick snow blanketing mountains and railway tracks in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir. The visuals highlight the engineering feat of maintaining rail connectivity in one of India’s most challenging terrains during peak winter.

Kashmir was connected to the
rest of India by rail in 2023, marking a historic milestone after decades of logistical and engineering challenges in the Himalayan region. The completion of critical sections of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project enabled seamless rail connectivity to the Valley, which had long depended on road access prone to winter closures.
A defining symbol of this integration is the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, rising 359 metres above the Chenab River. Engineered to endure seismic activity, extreme winds and sub-zero temperatures, the bridge represents one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects undertaken by Indian Railways.
The Vande Bharat services in Jammu and Kashmir are seen as a major step towards improving all-weather connectivity, especially during winter months when road links such as the Banihal–Ramban stretch frequently face disruptions due to snowfall and landslides.
The visuals of the Vande Bharat train cutting through snow come amid an intense cold wave in Jammu and Kashmir, with fresh snowfall reported across higher reaches. Temperatures have dipped well below freezing, coating tracks, tunnels and mountains in snow — conditions that once brought surface connectivity to a standstill. Railway officials say modern infrastructure, advanced safety systems and regular snow-clearance operations are now allowing train services to continue even during harsh winter spells.
