Thane, Jun 9 (PTI) A 20-year-old youth drowned after he ventured for a swim in a water-filled stone quarry in Maharashtra’s Thane district, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident was reported at 8.33 pm on Monday at Betavade village in the Diva area, Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.
Monu Solanki entered the quarry for a swim. He failed to gauge the water depth and drowned, the official said.
After being alerted, police, fire brigade and disaster response personnel rushed to the site. A search operation was carried out for about an hour, but was later halted temporarily due to darkness.
The search resumed on Tuesday morning, and the body was retrieved, the official said.
The police sent the body
