Just like they did in 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) broke the internet by winning the IPL 2026 title. Fans from India and around the world made the franchise name and its players trend on the internet and every social media platform active in the country.
It was a complete performance from the defending — or as Jitesh Sharma said, ‘attacking’ — champions. GT openers Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan were dismissed early by Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, respectively, leaving the Titans at 45/2 after the Power Play.
The middle order failed to build momentum, as Rasikh Salam Dhar claimed crucial wickets to further dismantle the batting lineup. Despite an unbeaten half-century from Washington Sundar, the Titans concluded their innings
with a sub-par total of 155/8.
In response, RCB initiated their chase with immense aggression. Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer dismantled the pace attack, specifically targeting Kagiso Rabada, to establish a commanding partnership of 62 runs within five overs.
Although the team secured seventy runs in the Powerplay, they subsequently experienced a middle-order collapse. The quick dismissals of Iyer, Devdutt Padikkal, captain Rajat Patidar, and Krunal Pandya reduced the team to 91/4
However, Kohli remained steadfast, pushing the innings with a rapid half-century. Tim David provided critical support with a rapid 24 runs. After surviving a contentious catch review, Kohli struck a six to secure the victory, finishing unbeaten on 75 off 42 deliveries. RCB reached their target in 18 overs, allowing captain Patidar to successfully defend their championship title.
How the internet reacted to RCB’s title
Irfan Pathan wrote: “RCB RCB. Sher ko Khoon mooh lag Gaya hai. Champion 👏”
Sachin Tendulkar said: “Congratulations to @RCBTweets on winning consecutive @IPL titles. One of the challenges in sport is that success changes the questions you have to answer. After winning once, the task is no longer proving you can do it, but proving you can sustain it. RCB met that challenge impressively this season. A well-deserved achievement!”
Vijay Mallya said: “RCB RCB….Congratulations Double back to back IPL Champions. Namma dodda Simhagulu roared loudly and made us all very proud. Very well done you beauties.”
Suresh Raina said: “Once was so nice, they did it twice. What a campaign by “Attacking Champions” RCB. A near perfect campaign and the trophy is in right hands of Captain Rajat Patidar. Special mention to Virat Kohli for that knock – Matter bada tha, Isliye wahan King khada tha. @imVkohli @RCBTweets #IPL #RCB”
