Two of Diogo Jota’s children served as mascots at Anfield on Saturday as Liverpool and Wolves honoured their former forward.
Jota, who tragically died in a car accident in July, moved to Liverpool from
Wolves in 2020.
In the first match between the teams since his death, both sets of supporters paid their respects, including a chant in Jota’s name in the 20th minute.
Two of his three children, Dinis and Duarte, along with other family members, took on the role of mascots, with his wife Rute Cardoso also present.

Liverpool retired the number 20 shirt worn by Jota and plans are underway for a permanent memorial at Anfield for the Portugal international and his brother Andre Silva, who also lost his life in the accident.
Wolves’ Record Loss
Liverpool defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Saturday, moving into the top four and consigning Wolves to the longest winless start in Premier League history with 18 games.
Goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz, scored just a minute apart in the first half, secured the win for Liverpool, bringing their total to 32 points after 18 matches. Wolves’ difficult season persisted, managing only two points so far.
Wolves managed to hold off Liverpool’s attacks until Gravenberch scored in the 41st minute. Jeremie Frimpong broke through Wolves’ defence and assisted the Dutch midfielder, who shot into the bottom corner.
A minute later, Wirtz scored his first goal for Liverpool, converting Hugo Ekitike’s through ball past goalkeeper Jose Sa. Wolves responded in the 51st minute when Tolu Arokodare’s header was saved by Alisson Becker, but Santiago Bueno capitalised on the rebound to score.
