On Friday, the Karnataka High Court directed the electoral officer to conduct the long-delayed elections for various posts within the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on December 7. The decision
was welcomed by Team Game Changers, led by Venkatesh Prasad.
The election, initially set for November 30, was postponed by the KSCA electoral officer to December 30 due to ambiguity surrounding the nine-year clause for participants.
Justice Suraj Govindaraj issued the order, nullifying the letter from the electoral officer dated November 17 regarding the postponement. Furthermore, Justice Govindaraj appointed former state High Court judge, Justice Subhash B Adi, to oversee the election process.
In his directive, Justice Govindaraj stated: “The Electoral Office is directed to conduct the elections in accordance with the existing bye-laws of KSCA and complete the elections as per the following calendar of events, without being influenced by any interpretation sought to be given to the bye-laws under the supervision of Shri Justice Subhash B.”
Vinay Mruthyunjaya, former treasurer of KSCA and candidate for the secretary’s post, expressed approval of the court’s ruling. “The Hon’ble Court’s verdict has unequivocally established my eligibility to contest, and the Electoral Officer is now bound to implement this ruling,” Mruthyunjaya said.
The scrutiny of nominations will occur on November 24 between 11 am and 4 pm, with the list of candidates announced on the same day.
KN Shanth Kumar, Director of Printers Mysore Pvt Ltd and candidate for KSCA president, also welcomed the development. “Each of us, the office bearers, candidates here, and our committee members have varied experience, expertise, and abilities. I hope to bring out the best in them to work as a team and advance Karnataka cricket in every aspect,” Kumar stated.
