Starting a tech company from scratch is never easy, but a few entrepreneurs have managed to succeed, including Sushant Timmapur, the founder of Matiks. Despite his achievements and being an IIT graduate,
Sushant shared that his father worries about his future. He recalled a rare phone call from his dad that left him by surprise. During the conversation, his father, who is retiring in a few months, asked if the work Sushant was doing would secure his future. Unsure how to respond, Sushant quickly changed the topic.
The entrepreneur shared that the call was a surprise for him because he and his father rarely speak directly. Normally, his mother gives the phone to his father after convincing him to speak. But this time, his father called him himself, which was unusual for Sushant.
A Rare Father-Son Conversation
Taking to X, Sushant Timmapur wrote, “Phone buzzed: Dad calling. That itself was a surprise. We rarely talk directly, it’s mostly when mom passes her phone, saying, ‘Papa se baat karo.’ Him calling me? Never happens. I picked up. ‘All good?’ I asked. He paused for a moment and said, ‘Haan beta, woh retirement hai 4-5 mahine mein, jo bhi tum kar rahe ho, usse tumhari career banegi na?’ Didn’t really know what to say. Just changed the topic, ‘Kya bana hai dinner mein?’”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Looks like he’s scared of slowing down and you’re scared of not speeding up.”
Another shared, “Dads are usually introverted.”
“I started building after my dad had retired and there were and are multiple times this question comes up. A founder can derisk an investor’s perception, but that of Indian parents, that’s a long long road,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “A simple ‘Han papa, bharosa rakhiye’ could change things drastically here. Not sure how father-son dynamics are usually but been there and done that as a girl.”
Another said, “You have won already.”
One more added, “Next time, sit down with him and show the result of what you do. People like us have been through the grind and done manually whatever is getting automated now. 100% he will like it and tell his friends with pride what you are doing.”
