Paying an extensive number of premiums and then facing claim issues and potential rejections can leave you heavily frustrated as someone who signed up for a life insurance policy. Many Indian citizens, who purchase these coverage policies to ensure they have a financial ally in times of desperate need, encounter claim-related problems where the insurance company provides delayed or partial payouts. In certain cases, a claim is outright rejected, citing complications in the paperwork or some issue with the premiums you diligently pay.
According to an annual report filed for the financial year 2024-25 by the Council of Insurance Ombudsman (CIO), thousands of policyholders around the country have lodged recent complaints against life insurers with
the insurance ombudsman. This annual report has listed down such life insurance companies, which recorded the highest number of complaints during FY 2024-25.
Company With The Highest Life Insurance Complaints
According to the report by the Council of Insurance Ombudsman, Bharti AXA Life Insurance Company is the life insurance body that received the largest number of complaints (2,770) from those who signed up as policyholders in the period 2024-25. The CIO’s annual report noted LIC of India as the company with the second most complaints, standing at 1951. That said, however, the number of complaints lodged here is relatively low in comparison to the two entities’ massive policyholder base.
The statement of complaints disposal for life insurance made for the period between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025, by the CIO noted that the Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company received the lowest number of complaints among the listed top 10 insurers.
