Iran-US War News LIVE Updates: The United States has warned it could maintain its naval blockade of Iran indefinitely, as ceasefire talks remain stalled and tensions over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz continue to rise.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the US Navy could sustain the blockade by rotating ships in and out of the region. “Indefinitely the United States Navy can maintain a blockade like that because we’ll rotate ships in and out, as we have, and we’ll continue to,” he said.
In another development, as US President Donald Trump continues to claim that the US has “total control” of the strait, Iran has rejected his assertion. Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari called the claim “lies and fabrications”, saying
the waterway remained under Iranian control.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also accused Washington of making an “even bigger miscalculation” over Hormuz, warning that “fake intelligence” could lead to dangerous decisions.
Meanwhile, the UAE accused Iran of attacking two vessels operated by state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company while they were transiting the strait.
The confrontation is also weighing on oil markets, with supply disruptions and weaker global demand adding to uncertainty. Brent crude settled at $87.07 a barrel on Thursday.
