Rumour about 'Rs 1 sale' leads to stampede-like situation outside Mumbai mall

Jun 27 (PTI) A social media rumour about a clothing outlet selling outfits for Rs 1 led to a stamped-like situation outside a mall in suburban Malad on Saturday morning but there was no untoward incident, police said.

A video claiming that the outlet situated in Infiniti Mall was selling clothes for at Rs 1 as a promotional offer was shared by many people and soon a large crowd of shoppers gathered before the shop opened, said an official of Bangur Nagar police station.

Fearing that there might be a stampede, police intervened and announcements were made clarifying that there was no such discount offer, the official said, adding that the crowd dispersed peacefully. PTI ZA KRK
