A packed weekend at theatres, strong word-of-mouth and plenty of fan celebrations have given Karuppu a solid run at the box office. Even after the opening weekend rush slowed down, the Suriya and Trisha Krishnan starrer managed to stay steady on its first Monday, continuing its impressive theatrical momentum.
Directed by RJ Balaji, the fantasy courtroom action drama has now crossed the ₹80 crore mark in India within four days of release. According to trade website Sacnilk, the film earned ₹14.30 crore net on Monday. With that, its total domestic collection stands at ₹82.30 crore.
The film had an unusual start at the box office. Originally expected to arrive earlier, the release was delayed by a day because of financial hurdles faced by production
banner Dream Warrior Pictures. Despite missing out on a Thursday opening, Karuppu still opened to ₹15.50 crore on Friday and then witnessed strong growth over the weekend.

The collections jumped to ₹24.15 crore on Saturday, followed by ₹28.35 crore on Sunday, backed by solid theatre occupancy and positive audience reactions. The film has already overtaken the lifetime India collections of several recent Suriya releases. Etharkkum Thunindhavan had collected ₹49.10 crore net in India during its full run, while Kanguva earned ₹70.37 crore. Retro had finished with ₹60.58 crore. Karuppu has also reportedly performed much better in Tamil markets compared to its dubbed Telugu version.
The film’s growing success also received a political and cinematic stamp of approval on Monday. Producer SR Prabhu met Vijay along with members of the team. Sharing the update on X, the film’s official handle posted, “We are overjoyed to share that our Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. Joseph Vijay, has extended his heartfelt wishes and congratulations to our producer @prabhu_sr for the grand success of THE ONE @Suriya_offl‘s #Karuppu. It is truly wonderful and heartwarming for our entire team to receive his wishes.”
Neither Suriya, Trisha nor RJ Balaji accompanied the producer during the meeting.
Karuppu blends fantasy, action and courtroom drama with a social angle. The story revolves around corrupt lawyers exploiting vulnerable people, before Karuppusamy — a deity associated with justice — takes human form to protect the oppressed and restore balance.
Apart from Suriya and Trisha, the film also stars Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maaya Ravi and Supreeth Reddy in key roles. RJ Balaji has also acted in the film and plays the antagonist. The screenplay has been co-written by Rathna Kumar, Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan and Karan Aravind Kumar, while Sai Abhyankar has composed the background score.
By the end of its first weekend, Karuppu had already emerged as Tamil cinema’s highest-grossing film of 2026. Early reactions online have largely been positive, with many viewers praising Suriya’s intense transformation as Karuppusamy and calling the film a “paisa vasool blockbuster”. Several social media users highlighted the gripping first half and crowd-pleasing climax, while others appreciated Trisha’s performance and Sai Abhyankar’s music. Some viewers even described the film as “a perfect blend of action, soul, and strong storytelling” and an “experience” best enjoyed on the big screen with Suriya in full “God mode”.
