Ageing is something most people want to slow down and few pursue it as seriously as US entrepreneur Bryan Johnson. Known for his intense anti-ageing routine, the millionaire recently shared an Instagram
post revealing his simple guide on “how to maintain baby skin.” The post came after a viral video showed the visible damage caused by decades of sun exposure.
The video featured an elderly man who had worked outside for more than 70 years. While his legs were usually covered, his arms were constantly exposed to the sun. The difference was clear as his arms appeared dark and wrinkled while his legs looked smoother and brighter. Johnson used this example to explain how he protects his own skin from the sun’s harsh effects.
‘A Rule Of Thumb I Use Is…’
Sharing his approach, Johnson said too much sun can be as damaging as too little. “Wow, that is the real effect of the sun. People give me so much s**t. The sun is definitely good for you and it feels great. Too much of it at the wrong time can also lead to all kinds of photoaging and even cancer,” he said. The millionaire went on to explain how he manages sun exposure throughout the day to keep his skin healthy and youthful.
“Be in the sun in the mornings when the UV index is low or in the evenings. A rule of thumb I use is getting sun exposure when the UV index is below 3. When it’s above 3, have some kind of protection. A UV umbrella, a hat, a mineral sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. Try to avoid chemical-based sunscreens,” he said.
Johnson also reminded his followers to stay cautious and “please don’t burn, it’s not worth the risks.”

Focus On Mineral Sunscreens
This is not the first time Johnson has discussed the importance of mineral-based sunscreens. In an earlier post, he had explained that mineral sunscreens are less likely to be absorbed into the skin and are generally more environmentally-friendly. Unlike chemical sunscreens, they work by forming a physical layer that reflects UV rays instead of absorbing them.

Understanding UV exposure
The UV index measures the intensity of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. On this scale, a reading of 1 means minimal risk of overexposure while 11 or higher signals a very high danger level. When the UV index climbs above 3, experts recommend protection such as sunscreen, clothing or shade. Continuous exposure to strong UV rays can lead to premature ageing, skin damage and even skin cancer.
The Role Of Moderate Sunlight
Moderate sun exposure still plays a key role in maintaining health. The sun helps the body produce vitamin D, which supports bone strength and the immune system. It can also improve mood, sleep patterns and even help kill certain bacteria.
