Stock Market Opens Higher: Sensex Rises Over 190 Points, Nifty Nears 24,000; Banking Lead Gains

Indian benchmark equity indices opened higher on Tuesday, supported by gains in banking and financial stocks amid positive global cues and Iran and the US moving ahead with Qatar talks to resolve the war following reciprocal attacks for the past few days.

At around 9:16 am IST, the BSE Sensex was trading 196.32 points, or 0.26%, higher at 76,924.69, after opening at 77,005.51.

The NIFTY 50 also traded in positive territory, gaining 38.65 points, or 0.16%, to 23,984.90. The index opened at 24,032.05.

Among Sensex constituents, Maruti Suzuki led the gainers with a rise of 1.87%, followed by Adani Ports (+1.15%), IndiGo (+0.88%), Power Grid (+0.82%), Trent (+0.79%), and Sun Pharma (+0.71%). Banking heavyweights ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank also traded

higher, gaining 0.44% each, while Reliance Industries added 0.40%.

On the losing side, Infosys was among the top laggards, followed by Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, NTPC, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, which traded modestly lower in early deals.

Among the broader markets, buying interest remained positive. The Nifty Next 50 rose 0.23%, while the Nifty 100 and Nifty 200 gained 0.18% each. The Nifty Smallcap 100 outperformed with a 0.42% rise, while the Nifty Midcap 100 added 0.19%, indicating continued investor interest beyond large-cap stocks.

Sectorally, Nifty Oil & Gas gained 0.45%, Nifty PSU Bank rose 0.40%, and Nifty Realty advanced 0.37%. However, Nifty Metal, Nifty FMCG, and Nifty IT traded marginally in the red, reflecting mixed sectoral sentiment in the opening session.
