Anime’s biggest night turned into a massive global celebration this year, with fans, creators and celebrities from across industries gathering in Tokyo for the 10th edition of the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. From blockbuster franchises to rising new titles, the event brought together some of the most talked-about names in anime under one roof.
Held on May 23 in Tokyo, Japan, the awards ceremony was hosted once again by voice actor Sally Amaki and presenter Jon Kabira. Indian actor Rashmika Mandanna also attended the ceremony as one of the presenters and shared the stage with Winston Duke to present the Best Animation award.
Several international stars joined the event this year, including The Weeknd, RZA, K-pop stars TEN and BamBam, along with actors
Asuka Saito, Kasumi Arimura and Nanase Nishino.
The night belonged to some of anime’s biggest global franchises. My Hero Academia Final Season emerged as one of the top winners and took home the Anime of the Year award. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle and One Piece also scored major wins during the ceremony.
India had a proud moment at the event as voice artist Abhishek Sharma won Best Voice Artist Performance (Hindi) for voicing Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries Season 2.
According to Crunchyroll, fans cast over 73 million votes globally for this year’s awards, marking a new record for the event. The platform revealed that the top voting countries included Brazil, Germany, India, Mexico and the United States.
Apart from the awards, the ceremony also featured live performances by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, along with musicians Dean Fujioka, Yoko Takahashi, Pornograffitti and Asian Kung-Fu Generation.
Director Tatsuya Nagamine received the Global Impact Award for his contribution to anime through projects such as Dragon Ball Super and One Piece. Since he could not attend the event, animator Masayuki Sato accepted the honour on his behalf.
