Fans of the adrenaline-fueled hit F1 have reason to celebrate. Legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that a sequel to the 2025 blockbuster is officially in the works. Speaking to PEOPLE at The Hollywood Reporter’s Nominees Night on February 10, Bruckheimer, 82, revealed, “We’re working on the story. It’s really good. We’re talking to Lewis Hamilton. We’re getting it going through him and pitching him the ideas and see what he thinks.”
The announcement comes after the film’s extraordinary success, which saw it gross $633 million worldwide and earn four Oscar nominations at the upcoming 2026 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Visual Effects. Bruckheimer, known for iconic franchises such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Top
Gun, kept details about returning stars under wraps. When asked about the possible return of Brad Pitt, who played Sonny Hayes, the producer said, “We’ll see. I’m not going to tell you yet.”
What Fans Can Expect
F1 introduced audiences to Sonny Hayes, a former racing prodigy making a triumphant return to the sport after 30 years. Brad Pitt’s portrayal of Hayes captured hearts, while Damson Idris costarred as Joshua Pearce, a talented young teammate mentored by Hayes. Javier Bardem appeared as Rubén Cervantes, the team’s formidable owner. The film’s high-octane sequences were shot during real Formula 1 races across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, a fact that added authenticity and intensity to the story.
Director Joseph Kosinski, who helmed the original film, expressed enthusiasm for continuing Sonny Hayes’ journey. “Based on the reception of the film, I would love to see what adventures Sonny Hayes is going on to next, and I think the audience would too,” Kosinski said in October 2025. Kosinski also reflected on filming the original movie, noting that Brad Pitt’s emotional connection to the character was palpable. “We let him do a few more laps at the end of the last take just because I knew he loved it. I think it was emotional for him to say goodbye to this character because he really loved playing him.”
