New Delhi, Jun 17 (PTI) Delhi was relatively pleasant on Wednesday, with the mercury staying below normal across most weather stations, even as the city witnessed a rise in daytime temperatures after recording its coolest day of June a day earlier.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Safdarjung, the city’s primary weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius, 0.7 notches below normal, while the minimum settled at 23.8 degrees Celsius, 3.7 notches below normal.
Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, 1.6 notches below normal, and a minimum of 22.3 degrees Celsius, 5.5 notches below normal. Lodhi Road registered a maximum of 38 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.6 degrees Celsius, both
below normal by a degree and 5.4 degrees respectively.
The Ridge observatory recorded the highest maximum temperature at 39.2 degrees Celsius, marginally above normal by 0.9 degree, while its minimum temperature stood at 22 degrees Celsius, 4.8 notches below normal. Ayanagar recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, 1.2 notches below normal, and a minimum of 22.2 degrees Celsius, 3.7 degrees below normal.
The weather department said Safdarjung received 2.8 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Wednesday. Palam recorded 9.1 mm of rainfall, Lodhi Road 1.2 mm, Ayanagar 2.5 mm, while the Ridge station recorded a trace of rainfall during the said period.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 92, in the “satisfactory” category, at 4 pm, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor”, and 401 and 500 “severe”. PTI SSJ RC
