In a rare and candid throwback, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s daughter Shweta Bachchan once opened up about her whirlwind romance with husband Nikhil Nanda, revealing that she made the life-changing decision
to marry him just 10 days after meeting.
The revelation came during an old episode of Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, where the daughter of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan shared how her love story unfolded unexpectedly while she was on a break from college in Mumbai.
Shweta recalled that it was renowned designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla who introduced her to enowned businessman, Nikhil Nanda. “They made me meet him and we chatted and we clicked… I just knew him 10 days before he proposed to me… I thought for five minutes,” she said. She admitted with a smile that she hadn’t even been on a date with him before saying yes. She married Nikhil on February 16, 1977.
Sitting beside her during the interview, Amitabh Bachchan shared his thoughts as a proud but emotional father. “I hope my samdhis (in-laws) are happy and I hope my son-in-law is happy,” he said, capturing his wish for his daughter’s new chapter.
The two tied the knot on February 16, 1997, in a grand yet intimate ceremony that brought together two legendary families — the Bachchans and the Kapoors. Today, Shweta and Nikhil are proud parents to Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda, both of whom have found their own places in the limelight.
Beyond being Amitabh Bachchan’s son-in-law, Nikhil Nanda comes from an illustrious lineage himself. The Chairman and Managing Director of Escorts Limited, he is the grandson of the legendary Raj Kapoor, and cousin to Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor.
Though Shweta largely stays away from the spotlight, this glimpse into her love story remains one of her most endearing revelations. Shweta Bachchan is an author, columnist, and entrepreneur.
