The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Haryana, along with Chandigarh, is likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds through the day. Wind speeds may reach 30–40 kmph at isolated places, prompting authorities to issue advisories urging people to remain cautious, especially in open areas and during travel.
Delhi Wakes Up To Rain
Neighbouring Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) also woke up to light rainfall on Sunday morning. The national capital has been placed under a yellow alert, with the IMD warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds as the active weather spell sets in.
Weather conditions are expected to intensify further across parts of north and central India. The IMD has issued an orange alert for eastern Rajasthan and parts of Madhya Pradesh, where thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms are very likely at isolated locations. These conditions could pose risks to standing crops, horticulture and exposed infrastructure.
More severe weather is forecast over the western Himalayan region. Himachal Pradesh may witness thunderstorms with lightning and stronger gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, while parts of Jammu–Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience thunderstorms with moderate winds. Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are also expected at isolated places in higher reaches, potentially affecting road connectivity and travel.
Additionally, the Met Department has forecast cold day conditions over east Uttar Pradesh and dense fog over Odisha. Overall, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected to prevail over Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh during the two-day period ending Monday.
