Lucknow, Jul 26 (PTI) Police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly making a hoax claim regarding the presence of a bomb at Amausi Airport here, officials said.
According to police, around 11.45 pm on July 24, information was received that a person had reported the presence of a bomb at Amausi Airport.
This caused an atmosphere of panic at the airport. The bomb disposal team and other security agencies immediately conducted a thorough search, but no bomb or suspicious object was found, police said in a statement.
They said the caller had provided misleading information.
Consequently, a formal complaint was filed at Sarojini Nagar police station, and a case was registered against the caller under Section 212(A) (furnishing false information) of the Bharatiya
Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During investigation, police traced the location of the caller’s mobile number.
The individual who provided the false information was identified as Shyam Sundar (35), a resident of Kanpur, the statement said.
He was arrested from Kisan Path (Darogakheda) on Sunday and challaned under sections 170 (arrest to prevent commission of cognisable offences), 126 (security for keeping peace in other cases), and 135 (inquiry as to truth of information) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further legal proceedings are underway.
During interrogation, the accused said he is addicted to alcohol, and on July 24, while under the influence of liquor, he provided false information regarding the presence of a bomb.
The arrestee is a labourer at a leather factory, police said, adding that the mobile phone used to make the false report has been confiscated. PTI NAV ARB ARB
