The box office seems to be having a busy weekend, with one big release quietly holding its ground even as conversations around it remain mixed. Riteish Deshmukh’s latest film has been drawing audiences steadily, and the numbers are showing it.
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Raja Shivaji saw a slight jump in collections on its third day, Sunday. The film earned ₹12 crore, a small increase from Saturday’s ₹10.55 crore. It had opened at ₹11.35 crore on Day 1. With this, the total India gross stands at ₹40.34 crore, while the net collection has reached ₹33.90 crore so far.
Released on May 1, the historical drama arrived with strong buzz and went on to record the biggest opening ever for a Marathi film. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it has
managed to stay steady over the weekend and maintain its pace at the box office.
The film has been released in both Hindi and Marathi, contributing to its overall numbers. From Sunday’s collections, ₹3.52 crore came from Hindi shows, while Marathi screenings brought in ₹6.91 crore.
Interestingly, the film’s performance remained unaffected by its box office clash with Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. The competing release reportedly saw a sharp drop on its second day, collecting less than ₹1 crore.
After the release, Riteish shared a message on Instagram, thanking audiences for their support and making a request. He said, “Namaskar! We have released the film Raja Shivaji, based on the story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. You have watched this film with your own eyes and given such a great response to it. The entire team of Raja Shivaji and I are deeply indebted to you for that.”

Backed by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, the historical drama has been released in both Marathi and Hindi. It is produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande, with Genelia also playing the role of Saibai alongside Riteish’s portrayal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Their sons, Rahyl and Riaan, appear as the younger version of the Maratha ruler.
The film features a large ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, and Amole Gupte in key roles.
The film traces the early life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, focusing on his vision of Swarajya and his resistance against powerful empires. Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire in western India, is known for establishing an independent kingdom by challenging the Deccan Sultanates and the Mughal Empire. Key historical events depicted include the 1663 raid on Pune targeting Mughal general Shaista Khan, and the 1664 sack of Surat, which disrupted Mughal trade.
News18 Showsha gave this film a 3.5-star rating. “Raja Shivaji is a sincere and ambitious attempt at telling an important story. It is not without flaws, mainly its pacing, but it delivers enough strong moments and a committed central performance to make it worth watching,” a part of our review reads.
