New Delhi, Sep 4 (PTI) The CPI(ML) Liberation on Friday said it will launch a month-long campaign for education reform on September 6, with a series of programmes planned in Uttar Pradesh to raise issues like paper leaks, examinations and the National Education Policy.
CPI(ML) L General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya told reporters that the ‘School Theek Karo-Siksha Sudharo’ (Improve Schools, Reform Education) campaign will be launched at a programme in Patna on Sunday.
The event will be attended by Bhattacharya and Neha Bora, president of the party’s student wing All India Students’ Association (AISA), among others.
The party has planned programmes in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Lucknow, Rae Bareli and
Meerut between September 9 and 18, Bhattacharya said.
The focus on Uttar Pradesh is significant as the state goes to polls early next year.
The campaign will culminate with a programme at Jadavpur University in West Bengal on October 5, Bhattacharya said.
The campaign is part of the CPI(ML)L’s effort to take up education-related grievances through youth-oriented programmes and connect them with demands for policy changes and accountability, he said.
The CPI(ML)L has already held or participated in programmes and protests on education-related and youth issues in Kerala, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra.
The party said the campaign will not be confined to school reforms, but will cover the wider education sector, including the National Education Policy, paper leaks, examinations, institutional inefficiency and accountability.
Bhattacharya said the campaign sought to carry forward the momentum generated by the Jantar Mantar protest.
“What made Jantar Mantar click? It was (youths from) UP which spilled over into the streets of Delhi,” he said.
