A unique variety of brinjal has caught all the eyes at the state-level Republic Day agriculture fair in Uttar Pradesh’s Godda. Visitors to the exhibition are stopping in large numbers to see an unusually long brinjal plant grown by a local farmer, with the vegetable measuring nearly two-and-a-half feet in length.
The rare produce, displayed at an agriculture stall, has surprised many for its size and healthy appearance. Fairgoers are not only clicking pictures but are also keen to speak with the farmer to understand the cultivation methods behind this exceptional crop. Other farmers visiting the exhibition have also shown interest in adopting this variety.
What makes this brinjal stand out is its length and high yield potential. While brinjals
usually grow to a limited size, this variety grows far longer than common types and offers better production. Its strong growth and visual appeal have made it one of the most talked-about exhibits at the fair.
Speaking to Local 18, District Agriculture Science Officer Ravishankar Kumar said the brinjal belongs to the “Lambi (Century) variety”. He explained that the variety has been successfully grown by farmers in Godda district and has proven to be well suited to the local soil and climate conditions.
According to Kumar, this brinjal variety offers good yields and can provide up to double the profit compared to the cost of cultivation. He added that the crop requires relatively less labour, has strong plants, and shows lower impact of pests and diseases when proper techniques are followed. This allows farmers to achieve better output with less time and expense.
In terms of nutrition, the long brinjal has similar nutritional value to regular varieties and is considered safe for consumption. It also meets market expectations for taste and quality, making it suitable for commercial sale.
The agriculture exhibition is showcasing several modern and improved farming practices, encouraging farmers to move towards innovative cultivation methods.
The two-and-a-half-foot-long brinjal variety has emerged as a symbol of new possibilities, offering fresh hope to farmers in Godda and the potential to boost agricultural income in the district in the coming years.
