Former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner has predicted how the Orange Army can clinch a second Indian Premier League (IPL) title. The Pat Cummins-led side has made it to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoffs, with 16 points. They still have one match left in the league stage, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday in Hyderabad.
IPL 2026 | Schedule | Results | Orange Cap | Purple Cap
A week before the playoffs, Warner took to Instagram and offered a ‘tip’ to SRH to win the IPL 2026 if they make it to the grand finale. According to the former captain, one of the openers has to score big, followed by some superb finishing acts by the likes of Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. Once they post a big total on the board,
captain Cummins would need to pick at least 3 wickets under 30 runs to break the opposition’s back.
He also predicted that Virat Kohli would smash a century in the playoffs, as RCB are currently sitting at the top of the points table.
The SRH have enjoyed a strong IPL 2026 campaign, marked by a remarkable turnaround after a slow start. Having lost three of their first four matches, they bounced back with a five-game winning streak to climb into the top three and eventually seal a playoff berth.
Their aggressive batting, led by Heinrich Klaasen and supported by impactful contributions from Ishan Kishan and the top order, proved decisive, while Pat Cummins’ leadership added balance. Overall, SRH emerged as one of the most consistent and dangerous sides in the latter half of the season.
David Warner – The IPL Winning Captain
Warner had led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their only IPL title in 2016. He finished as the season’s second-highest run-scorer, amassing 848 runs in 17 matches, including 9 half-centuries. His aggressive yet calculated approach set the tone for SRH’s campaign, while his leadership brought out the best in a balanced unit featuring a strong bowling attack.
In the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore, SRH defended a challenging 209-run target to clinch the trophy, capping off a historic season under Warner’s guidance.
