An Agra-based man, his wife, and their one and half-year-old daughter are stranded in Douala, Cameroon, Central Africa after what he describes as a prolonged ordeal involving passport confiscation, financial
distress, and alleged harassment.
In a self-made video circulated on X, Dheeraj Jain, an employee of a tour and travel company since 2012, has issued a desperate appeal to the Government of India to facilitate their safe return home.
Jain claims that although his employment contract expired, he was not allowed to leave the country, and his passport was seized by individuals connected to his employer. With no income and no access to travel documents, the family says they are struggling to afford even basic necessities, including milk for their young daughter.
Robbery case at the centre of the dispute
According to Jain, the roots of the crisis date back to September 2024, when he was robbed of 19 million CFA francs. A police case was registered, and the investigation remains ongoing. He alleges that despite being the victim, he is now being wrongly framed and blamed for the loss, as the money could not be recovered from insurance companies.
Jain says attempts to explain his situation and request repatriation were met with threats and accusations. He further alleges that two individuals, identified as Chandra Prakash from Haldwani, a man from Ajmer, and Manish Thakur from Bihar, have been harassing him, with local police frequently visiting and “disturbing” him.

The Agra resident insists that he fears for his life and that of his family. With no financial means and no legal way to travel, their situation is worsening by the day.
Jain and his wife has urged the Indian government to intervene immediately and extract them from Cameroon, stressing that his family’s safety depends on swift action.
