Chennai Super Kings have roped in Karnataka allrounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh, who was ruled out of the tournament due to a foot fracture last week.
Chennai Super Kings have written to BCCI and are awaiting approval to complete the signing, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to Cricbuzz.
Who Is Macneil Noronha
Noronha enjoyed a brilliant season for the Mangaluru Dragons during their title-winning 2025 Maharaja Trophy campaign. A powerful hitter, he scored 253 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 148.82, including 19 sixes across the season.
Noronha also contributed with his off-spin, claiming 10 wickets at an economy rate of 7.44. His best figures of 2/25 came in the final against the Hubli Tigers. His performances
earned him a call-up to the Karnataka team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he featured in three games.
Noronha scored 58 runs in those three matches, while picking up one wicket.
Noronha was awarded at the Naman Awards for being the highest run-getter in the U23 Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy, 2024-25.
Noronha replaces the 28-year-old Ghosh, who suffered a season-ending foot fracture on his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians on May 3.
It has been an injury-hit campaign for Chennai Super Kings despite their brilliant resurgence in the second half of the season. The team has already lost frontline Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmed and promising batter Ayush Mhatre to season-ending injuries.
Chennai Super Kings had already been without Nathan Ellis before the start of the season, while his replacement, Spencer Johnson, remained unavailable until recently because of an injury of his own.
CSK have also been without former captain MS Dhoni since the start of the campaign, with the former captain struggling with a calf strain.
Chennai Super Kings brought in Akash Madhwal as a replacement for Mhatre, but are yet to announce a substitute for Khaleel.
CSK are currently fifth on the points table and a win against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday can take them to the top four.
