Even in a box office landscape currently dominated by big-budget competition, smaller films often find their own rhythm. That’s exactly what seems to be happening with Blast, which is quietly picking up momentum in theatres while facing a heavyweight release running in parallel.
The Arjun Sarja-led action drama has entered its opening weekend on a stronger note, showing a clear jump in audience interest by Day 3. The film continues to run alongside Suriya’s Karuppu, which is still driving massive footfall and edging closer to the Rs 300 crore global mark, but Blast is steadily building its own theatrical run.
Directed by debutant Subash K Raj and backed by AGS Entertainment, Blast hit cinemas on May 28. The film revolves around a martial arts-trained
middle-class family whose lives spiral into chaos after they are forced into a violent and high-stakes situation.
On its third day, Blast showed a notable upward trend at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 3.90 crore nett in India on Day 3, marking a strong 81.4 percent jump compared to its Day 2 earnings of Rs 2.15 crore.
This takes the film’s total domestic net collection to Rs 7.30 crore, while its India gross stands at Rs 8.42 crore.
The Tamil version continues to drive the majority of the business. On Day 3 alone, it contributed Rs 3.25 crore from 1,523 shows, recording an overall occupancy of 49 percent. The Telugu version added Rs 65 lakh from 771 shows, with occupancy levels at 21 percent.
Interestingly, the film saw its strongest turnout during evening and night shows, where occupancy peaked at 68.23 percent, suggesting growing audience traction as the day progressed.
While domestic numbers are improving, Blast is also making its presence felt overseas. On Day 3, the film earned Rs 2 crore from international markets, taking its total overseas collection to Rs 4.05 crore.
With this, the worldwide gross for Blast now stands at Rs 12.47 crore.
Region-wise performance also reflects steady interest across South India. Tamil Nadu led with Rs 2.50 crore in gross collections on Day 3. Kerala followed with Rs 72 lakh, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 67 lakh. Karnataka added Rs 60 lakh, and the remaining Indian markets accounted for Rs 3 lakh.
The film features music composed by Ravi Basrur, who is best known for his work in the KGF franchise. Cinematography is handled by Arun Radhakrishnan, with editing by Pradeep E Ragav and production design by Veeramani Ganesan.
Produced under AGS Entertainment by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh, and Kalpathi S Suresh, the film also marks a reunion between Arjun Sarja and Abhirami after their earlier collaboration in Vaanavil (2000).
Meanwhile, Blast continues to run in a competitive box office environment, but its steady weekend growth suggests it is finding its own audience despite the ongoing dominance of bigger releases.
