What Happened To Alka Yagnik?
In 2024, Alka Yagnik shocked fans when she disclosed that she had been diagnosed with a rare hearing disorder known as sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The singer shared that the condition developed suddenly following a viral attack and drastically affected her ability to hear.
Back then, Alka shared a heartfelt social media post and recalled the frightening moment when she first noticed something was wrong. “A few weeks ago, as I walked out of a flight, I suddenly felt I was not able to hear anything,” she wrote, revealing that doctors later identified the cause as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss.
The hearing disorder has had a significant impact on Alka’s professional life. Although music composers have continued to approach her for projects, the singer has been unable to fully return to recording. Her last recorded song was Naram Kaalja from Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila (2024), composed by A.R. Rahman. Since then, she has not lent her voice to any new releases.
Alka Pens Emotional Note After Padma Bhushan

This honour is deeply humbling, and while my name may be on it, it belongs just as much to every listener who welcomed my voice into their lives, carried my songs through generations, and stood by me through both the highs and the challenges,” she wrote.
