Fast bowler Anrich Nortje is back in South Africa’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. Nortje, who made his long-awaited comeback to Tests last month in Durban against Australia, was ruled out of the series decider in Cape Town due to an injury that he suffered while bowling in the second Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
While Nortje is back in the squad, Lungi Ngidi continues to remain absent. Ngidi missed the home series against Australia due to injury, and he has not fully recovered yet, which is why he wasn’t considered for the two Tests against Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, top-order batters Tony de Zorzi and Zubayr Hamza are also back in the Test squad. Tony de Zorzi also missed the Tests against Australia due
to injury, whereas 31-year-old Hamza made his last Test appearance for the Proteas in February 2024 against New Zealand.
However, David Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne have been dropped from the side. Temba Bavuma, who led South Africa to a 2-1 win over the Aussies, will captain the hosts, and their squad also includes the likes of Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Corbin Bosch and Ryan Rickelton, among others.
“The South Africa Men’s selection panel has today named a 15-player squad to face Bangladesh in the two-match Dafabet Test series later this month. The first Dafabet Test will take place at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from 15-19 November, followed by the second Dafabet Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion from 23-27 November. Tony de Zorzi returns after recovering from the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the Test series against Australia, while batter Zubayr Hamza has also been included in the squad,” CSA tweeted.
