Star India pacer Harshit Rana has revealed a major piece of advice that Rohit Sharma imparted to him during the recent white-ball tour of Australia, with the former explaining how that advice helped him pick
a wicket and remained a life lesson for him.
Rana returned outstanding figures of 4/39 in the Sydney ODI, a spell that went a long way in quietening the criticism surrounding his selection in India’s ODI team for the Australia tour.
Under constant scrutiny, Rana’s all-round display, especially with the ball, vindicated the selectors’ faith in him.
Australia looked in control at 183/3, with Matt Renshaw bringing up his maiden ODI half-century and the top six chipping in with handy contributions. Rana’s incisive spell, however, triggered a dramatic collapse as the hosts lost seven wickets for 53 runs to be bowled out for 236, a decisive turning point in what became a dominant Indian performance.
Speaking on a MensXP podcast, Rana recalled a fascinating on-field moment from the game, explaining how Rohit’s intervention played a role in a crucial wicket. He recounted the episode in his own words, underlining the trust he places in Rohit’s cricketing instincts even as he adapts to Shubman Gill’s leadership.
“Shubman and I were out there and he suggested I take a slip, but I was not keen because the ball was not doing much. Then Rohit bhai came over and asked why I did not want one,” Rana said.

“When he (Rohit) put it like that, I did not really have an answer, so I agreed. The very next ball, the batter got out. Rohit bhai then said, ‘From now on, whenever a new batter comes in, you will take a slip, whether I am there or not,” Rana said.
The wicket that came after the fielding change validated Rohit’s faith in aggressive tactics and left a strong impression on Rana.
