Ankush won in a 4-1 split decision against Shittu.
He is the second male boxer after Sachin Siwach to win a gold medal for India at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
Sachin also made a remarkable comeback after trailing his opponent in the first two rounds. In the third and final round, Sachin forced a standing count against Ndevelo, resulting in a 3-2 split-decision victory in favour of the Indian.

Preeti Pawar was the first Indian boxer to win gold at the ongoing Games. She defeated Canada’s Scarlett Delgado 5-0 in the women’s 54kg final before reigning world champion Jaismine Lamboria clinched the yellow metal with the same scoreline against Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh.
Sakshi Chaudhary then defeated England’s Ruby White 5-0 in the women’s 51kg final to win India’s third boxing gold of the day.
It was a harder final bout for Priya Ghanghas, who defeated Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh 4-1 in a split decision in the women’s 60kg final.
Arundhati Choudhary defeated England’s Chantelle Reid in the women’s 70kg final by a unanimous 5-0 decision.
Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, however, settled for silver after losing to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the women’s 75kg final by a split 1-4 decision.
Jadumani Singh lost a hard-fought contest 0-5 to Australia’s Jye Dixon in the men’s 55kg final.
After struggling against his taller opponent, Jadumani rallied to win the first round 3-2. However, Dixon showed his class and fought back brilliantly to take the second round by a 5-0 unanimous decision.
The Australian used the momentum to edge out his opponent and end India’s golden run in the boxing ring.
Indian boxers have managed to win seven gold and two silver medals so far at CWG 2026. Narender Berwal will aim to win India’s eighth gold in boxing when he takes on England’s Damar Thomas in the men’s +90kg final.
