Jaipur, Jun 8 (PTI) A cheetah identified as KGP-3, which strayed from Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park, has reached Rajasthan’s Bandh Baretha Wildlife Sanctuary in Bharatpur district after travelling nearly 200 kilometres, forest officials said on Monday.
Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Bharatpur, Chetan Kumar B V, said the cheetah had left Kuno some time ago and moved through the Mandrayal Dang region in Karauli district.
It then passed through the core area of the Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve and reached Sarmathura before entering the Bandh Baretha area on May 30.
Since then, the animal has been continuously moving within the sanctuary, frequenting forest blocks such as Banswadi, Mewla, Jamura Timkoli, Gadi Bajna and Shahpur, he said.
“The cheetah is healthy and has reached here naturally while expanding its territory. It is actively moving within the forest area,” the officer added.
Officials said the animal’s movements are being closely tracked with the help of a satellite collar fitted around its neck by a team of experts from Kuno National Park. The monitoring team is maintaining a safe distance of about 20 metres while keeping a constant watch.
A three-member team from the Bharatpur forest department is also monitoring the cheetah, and fresh camera trap images have captured it moving along forest paths, Kumar said.
He added that the local forest department is fully alert and coordinating with the Kuno team to ensure the animal’s safety, with enhanced surveillance and specific instructions issued to field staff. PTI AG RUK RUK
