ChatGPT Gets Age Predictor: What Is It And How It Works

OpenAI has been warned about the ill effects of under age users on ChatGPT and using the AI chatbot so the company is bringing a new way to predict age on ChatGPT. This is not like a fun tool that allows people to predict their age using AI but more focused on keeping the platform safe for kids and teens which has become a vital part of its overall growth.

The feature is rolling out this week for all users but those in the European Union (EU) regions will have to wait for a few more weeks. 

ChatGPT Age Prediction: What Is It 

OpenAI says age prediction has become unavoidable, especially with all the regulatory pressure to keep teens safe and stop them from accessing content beyond a certain age. This new process looks to offer an age-appropriate

experience for users below 18.

The company says if anybody is found to be using an account below the age of 18, ChatGPT will work within its extra safety settings. “They can limit some sensitive content and certain kinds of interactions,” OpenAI has explained its need in a post. 

Graphic violence or gore, viral challenges that could push risky or harmful behavior, sexual, romantic, or violent role play, content that promotes extreme beauty standards and unhealthy dieting, or body shaming, are the kinds of topics that ChatGPT will handle more carefully. 

ChatGPT Age Prediction: How It Works 

ChatGPT has been trained to help the company predict the age of the users and it has built a system to make it work. OpenAI says the AI chatbot will look at the topics the person talks about or at what time of the day they use ChatGPT which seems to be giving them an idea about the demographics of that particular user. 

The company is aware that systems like these can make mistakes and it says that if any of the users feels wrongly aged by ChatGPT they can manually verify the details to unlock the regular version of ChatGPT with no limits or restrictions. 

How To Verify Age On ChatGPT

The process to verify your age on ChatGPT requires you to login and submit an official ID to be authenticated for the regular ChatGPT experience. 

• Login to ChatGPT on web
• Open settings
• Check for your ChatGPT-defined age
• Click on Verify age

OpenAI is working with Persona, a third-party company for the verification process. You can either submit a Live selfie shot on your phone or any government ID. OpenAI assures that Persona deletes your official data within 7 days post verification.

And the company can only see your date of birth or a predicted age. ChatGPT’s under-age version is limited in terms of the content but promises a safer experience for the teens.
